QiO Chairman Rick Haythornthwaite Discusses Industrial IoT and Artificial Intelligence on SKY News’ Ian King Live Programme
11 June 2018, London, UK – QiO Chairman, Rick Haythornthwaite, was a guest on Sky News’ leading business programme “Ian King Live” for a wide-ranging interview on the state of industrial technology. Topics included QiO’s recent inclusion in the Gartner Magic Quadrant report on Industrial IoT Platforms, as well as how companies across the industrial spectrum are addressing data flows that are increasing exponentially by the day. “Right now, industry is in a bit of a mess. You have information technology in traditional packages that churn out copious amounts of data into spreadsheets. You’ve got operational technology that is proprietary to vendors, and the smart talent around companies is spending all their time deciphering this. What leaders are saying is, ‘How can I change this? How can I get the best talent and put them on solving tomorrow’s problems?’” Haythornthwaite said.
In a segment on the Internet of Things (IoT), Haythornthwaite addressed the impact of emerging consumer technologies in the industrial sector: “There is a lot of great technology being developed in the consumer space. In fact, it’s ahead of the industrial space and we’re just helping the industrial space catch up.”
Additional subjects addressed in the interview include: Open source platforms and the move away from “legacy lock-in” contracts, augmented analytics, how to move beyond the Industry 4.0 hype and buzz words, and artificial intelligence.
